About Me
Background
I am a Colorado native, born and raised in the south suburbs of Denver. I attended Naropa University where I received my Bachelors degree with a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. Following graduation I jumped right into Graduate school at Colorado Christian University, receiving a Masters of Art in Counseling. I find it is important to have a strong understanding of different religious and spiritual views to aid a client in their personal journey, wherever that may be today, as well as in ones past. I am trained in E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement and Sensitization Reprocessing) a helpful tool in processing trauma. I began my career working with foster children and children in adoptive homes. I found very quickly that often times these children, adolescents, and young adults ultimately wanted to talk about how they were connection with others, building relationships, and creating attachment including through social media and the internet. I began to transition my work to adolescents with pornography addiction and am currently a C.S.A.T.-Candidate (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist Candidate) as well as APSATS (Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists). I began my private practice with focuses on betrayal trauma, transition work for young adults, and adoptee care all through counseling and coaching.
Adolescence and Young Adults
Working with adolescence and young adults has been a passion of mine for many years. These imperative years are often over run by social media, peer relationships, sex/pornography, sexuality, understanding of life, and, yes, even our own family relationships. When the world is going by around us, at a speed we can’t keep up with, young adults are often times overcome by anxiety, depression, and poor coping skills. In my practice I meet my client in a place of safety and understanding. Allowing a young adult to be heard first, understood second, and finally equipping him or her with the skills to feel confident in who they are and who they are becoming.
Partners of Betrayal
Working with partners of betrayal is very close to my heart. Let me reiterate, you are not alone in this. The isolation that comes from finding you have been betrayed can feel lifeless and debilitating. The first session is often very difficult for many partners to make, it requires you to admit you have been betrayed and deeply hurt. This is a vulnerable place for me to meet my clients and begin the journey of healing. Clients will immediately begin looking at healthy coping skills and self care, setting boundaries, and creating safety in their relationship. While you may come in feeling hopeless, I work to guide my clients in seeing the hope and possibilities for a resilient self and tremendous growth within their marriage or partnership.
